The Coalition

The Snohomish County Children’s Wellness Coalition is a countywide collaborative effort to improve the health and wellness of young people throughout our region. The Coalition is supported by Snohomish County Human Services and many organizations and expert community partners.

We are driven, in part, by findings from the landmark Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study that found higher levels of traumatic experiences in the general population than previously imagined. Extensive research on the biology of stress now shows that healthy development can be derailed by excessive or prolonged activation of stress response systems in the body and brain, demonstrating clear impacts on learning, behavior, and relationships beginning in early childhood and lasting throughout the lifespan.

The Children’s Wellness Coalition is committed to engaging the community to ensure all children, youth and families in Snohomish County have the opportunity to build upon their innate resiliency. We do this by:

  • Educating stakeholders on trauma, ACEs, resilience, brain science, inclusion, and reflective practices
  • Providing awareness and access to trauma-informed practices and policies by developing a set of common tools, materials and resources
  • Aligning systems to decrease stigma/bias and increase self-efficacy & resiliency through our C.A.R.E. initiative
  • Using common data points to measure outcomes
